Halwa is considered to make a meal heavy yet is a source of energy that keeps us going. On any occasion if we are offered Halwa, we can’t decline the offer. Halwa is preferred as sweet dessert or served as snack.

In the past, semolina (suji) halwa was a luxury at home, restaurants offered flour halwa with puri, breads and malpuwa. Later came the trend of serving gajar ko halwa as a sweet dish after main course dinner during any event.

If so, there are numerous ingredients out of which haluwa can be made. The flavour of ingredients would help change taste and also satisfy the cravings of haluwa.

There are a few cuisine of haluwa we can look forward to trying at home.

Gram Dal Halwa

Soak lentil of gram for a few hours. Fry the dal in ghee. Mix sugar to the fried dal and stir a few minutes. Cook well adding milk to it. Garnish the halwa with saffron and cinnamon.

Walnut Halwa

Crush the walnut roughly in a grinder. Fry them well in ghee. Add cucumber seeds  and sugar to it. Stir them well. Add milk to it and cook well. A good thing about the walnut halwa is that walnuts are good for health.

Dates Halwa

Cut the dates into small pieces. Fry them well in ghee. Add cucumber seeds  and sugar to it. Stir them well. Add milk to it and cook well. Add grated coconut, almond and cashew nuts on top for garnish.

Likewise, we can also try moong dal and almond halwa for the need of change.

Additionally, we can also try making halwa out of vegetables like pumpkin, gourd and potatoes.

There is no boundary, regulations set for cooking. It is a free art form. As the world is evolving, the flavors added to every cuisine is also evolving with time.
